Spotlight: The Next Generation of Leaders

QFI students with U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan

In the spring of 2014, QFI selected 30 outstanding students from Argentina, Brazil, Qatar, and the United States to attend the 25th Annual National Service-Learning Conference - "Monumental," in Washington, DC. The week included community service training workshops and student-led conference sessions, where the students learned to design, prepare and launch a service-learning project on their own. In addition, QFI's Youth Advisory Council and mentors led plenary sessions and helped their peers develop and showcase their service projects.

Meet QFI's OER Fellows

On December 9, 2013, QFI’s OER Fellows participated in an International Math Collaboration OER Training put on by ISKME in Half Moon Bay, Calif. The one-day training gave math teachers from the Middle East and U.S. the opportunity to share best practices for innovative math teaching and to collaborate to create new curriculum. The goal of the training was to share best practices for effective implementation of math teaching and learning, experience IKSME’s OER Design Lab to brainstorm, prototype and present new curriculum project ideas and create OER using an online authoring tool. At the end of the conference, we asked the participants to talk about what they took away from their experience in Half Moon Bay and in touring San Francisco.
