“Conway Education Centre” (CEC) is a unique community-based education center situated on the “peace line” interface between the Falls Road and the Shankill Road in West Belfast. The center provides learning opportunities to adult learners, young people, and children, and provides English language classes and homework support to local refugees and those seeking asylum. QFI supports the center to teach Arabic to refugee children who have recently arrived in Northern Ireland, from primary age through to GCSE and A-Level. The center – which in 2019 was honored with the prestigious Aisling Achievement in Education Award – also teaches Arabic language and culture to Northern Irish people who work with the refugee community or have an interest in learning the language.
