How are song and music, poetry and literature related? How did Bedouin poetry, religious recitation, theater, and even contemporary poetry and performance formats influence musical practices? Moderator Sean Prieske explores these questions in the second edition of al musiqa. Looking at the Arabian Peninsula and the Levant we will explore the reciprocal relationship between music and poetry. Guests include the Arabist and ethnomusicologist Dr. Ines Weinrich and the award-winning lyricist, journalist and curator Ramy Al-Asheq.
The al musiqa series of events is aimed at music teachers, students and anyone interested in music.
The online event is free of charge and takes place on ‘Zoom’. The number of participants is limited.
