Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT) at the University of Strathclyde partnered with Qatar Foundation International and the online learning platform, e-Sgóil, to create courses that explore Arab culture and beginner Arabic language. This pilot program is available at 15 primary and secondary schools across Scotland. The course is available online to teach during lockdown when students are limited to travel in person and offers new venues to engage with native Arabic speakers from other parts of the world. Participating schools receive grants for support in language learning, as well as learning materials and resources that allow students to take advantage of expanded job opportunities provided by knowing another language.
