In partnership with Leipzig University, we are looking at the current state of the teaching of the Arabic language in the public-school sector in Germany. Locations being evaluated are Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hessen, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Saxony, & Thuringia.
Research questions include:
- Who is learning Arabic and what are the reasons and motivations for learning Arabic?
- Who is teaching Arabic and what qualifies the teacher to do so?
- What are the provisions in schools, school boards, and the federal state?
Methods utilized will be questionnaires, interviews & classroom observations.
