Spotlight: YALLAH: Commit to Action
In April 2012, QFI selected 36 students from Brazil, Qatar and multiple cities in the U.S. to participate in the National Service-Learning Conference and youthrive PeaceJam Leadership Conference held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Together with the National Youth Leadership Council, QFI students were able to design and develop a service-learning project that focused on a specific need in their schools and communities. These ranged from a "Stop Smoking" campaign to a YouTube channel for teens to seek answers for social issues that youth face around the world. This video highlights their journey.

On April 10, 2012, Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright visited QFI's partner school, Lindblom Math and Science Academy, in Chicago. Albright spoke about the upcoming Chicago NATO Summit 2012 and emphasized the importance of understanding other cultures in today's world. QFI students engaged Albright in questions about Qatar's Education City, the Doha Brookings Institute and ways to improve U.S.-Arab relations. They also told Albright how the QFI exchange trip to Doha helped them understand their role as leaders and global citizens.

Spotlight: National Geographic Photo Camp
QFI is proud to welcome National Geographic Photo Camp as its newest partner. During the Brazil to Qatar: One World, Many Stories exchange, QFI integrated a photo camp run by National Geographic that taught students how to use photography and video to communicate their ideas and explore their own communities.

Featured Program: BibliASPA
QFI works with BibliASPA to provide instruction in Arabic language and culture to high school students in São Paulo, Curitiba and Rio de Janeiro. Featured Partner: Conservation International
In celebration of Earth Day Qatar, QFI partnered with CI on the mapping mangroves campaign, which took place in the Al Dakhira Mangroves in Qatar. QFI and CI are also training student ambassadors from Qatar, Brazil and the U.S. to participate in the Rio+20 Earth Summit in June. Read a CI blog about what students learned in the mangroves.
