Washington, D.C., June 2026 — Qatar Foundation International (QFI) and the Institute of International Education (IIE) announced the publication of Mapping Arabic Language Education: A Global Landscape Study of Policy and Practice, the global report of the Study of Arabic Language Programs (SALP).
The report presents a cross-national examination of Arabic language education across six countries: Canada, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It provides an overview of Arabic language programs serving school-aged learners and explores how educational contexts, policies, and local conditions shape program implementation.
The study highlights both strong educator commitment and growing student interest in Arabic language learning. It also identifies common challenges facing programs, including teacher recruitment, curricular development, assessment practices, and the place of Arabic within broader educational systems.
Designed as a resource for educators, administrators, researchers, and policymakers, the report offers insights into the current landscape of Arabic language education across diverse national contexts.
The release of Mapping Arabic Language Education: A Global Landscape Study of Policy and Practice represents a significant contribution to the documentation of Arabic language education internationally and provides a reference point for those interested in the field.
