It’s an exciting new school year in New Haven Public Schools as we continue to expand our Arabic language offerings with the generous support of QFI. Since 2018, we have been able to grow our Arabic program to seven teachers in three high schools, four middle schools, and one K-5 program. As each new program that we added with QFI support has experienced success in the schools, we have been able to transition teacher salaries to our own funding sources. Happily, this year, our district is supporting all but two part-time teachers, kindly supported through QFI.
In the New Haven World Languages Department, we focus on showing students how the languages we teach are spoken right here in our community, as well as abroad. One way our teachers will engage the local Arabic-speaking community this year is through three planned Arabic Festivals! We have held one annual Arabic Festival at Wilbur Cross High School for the past four years. This year, we are thrilled that QFI has supported Arabic Festivals at Jepson Interdistrict Magnet School (a K-8 school), and Hill Regional Career High School. This will allow students from more schools to attend the festivals and experience the exciting cultural events and food, such as those highlighted in this article.
We are sending out best wishes to the QFI Community for a wonderful school year as you bring the beauty of Arabic language and culture to students worldwide.
