Afaf Alkhashman

Senior Research Officer

Afaf Alkhashman is an anthropologist, educator and linguist. She recently obtained her Ph.D. in education and anthropology program from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focused on immigrant women from the Arab world and their education and employment in Brooklyn, New York. Afaf also has an MA in Arab studies and another in translation from Georgetown and the university of Jordan respectively. Afaf worked on several research projects at Columbia and Georgetown universities, focusing on areas related to women’s education and labor, youth civic engagement, immigration, and gender. Afaf also worked as a trainer and facilitator and designed several training courses on areas such as intersectionality, social, economic and gender inclusion and Islam and gender. Over the years, she has also worked as a teacher, translator, and humanitarian facilitator with several organizations and NGOs, including The Jordanian ministry of education, the USAID, Noor Al-Hussein Foundation, NDI, and the Eurasia Foundation. Afaf was born and raised in Jordan and currently lives in the US.
