Over 50 schools participated in this year’s competition, which celebrates and motivates students who are studying Arabic in the UK, and encourages them to continue their study of the language into university and their professional careers.
After a semi-finalist round that was conducted within each school, over 200 finalists were submitted for judging. Each finalist submitted a two-minute presentation in Modern Standard Arabic on a chosen topic. The submissions were reviewed for their communication skills, fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary and grammar. In the end, the panel of esteemed judges selected 28 outstanding winning students.
The winning students, along with their teachers, were welcomed by a professor of Arabic at Oxford University, participated in a campus tour, and heard from distinguished academics and professionals who use Arabic in their work. A winning student from Hamstead School recited a poem in Arabic and English, and students from the Olive School Hackney Choir performed several songs. Winning students received certificates and calligraphy canvases in recognition of their exceptional Arabic language skills. Congratulations to the winners!
