The Tilemaker is an interactive educational tool developed by Qatar Foundation International (QFI) for learners aged 10 and up. It invites users to explore the beauty of Islamic art by creating vibrant, geometric tile designs. Whether you're learning Arabic or simply curious about Arab culture and design, the Tilemaker offers a creative and engaging experience.
QFI is committed to enriching Arabic language education by integrating cultural learning into the classroom. The Tilemaker supports this mission by providing a hands-on way to connect with Arab artistic traditions, aligning with the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. These standards emphasize the importance of cultural understanding as an essential part of language learning, especially in the context of Arabic, where language and culture are deeply intertwined.
Using the Tilemaker, students can draw lines and circles to explore how simple shapes combine to form intricate geometric patterns. They can then personalize their designs with color and creativity. Finished tiles can be downloaded, shared on social media, printed, or even transferred onto physical tiles—making it a perfect tool for art projects and project-based learning.
