Launched in October 2024, the Study of Arabic Language Programs (SALP), led by Qatar Foundation International (QFI) in collaboration with the Institute of International Education (IIE), will employ mixed methods to provide an in-depth analysis of Arabic language programs. This project will collect comparable data from Canada, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States, offering a comprehensive view of Arabic language teaching and learning across these countries.
The findings will highlight the role of Arabic as a subject for instruction and enrichment, guiding QFI’s strategic planning and programming to further Arabic language education. Over the next 16 months, dedicated Country-Level Teams (CLTs) will conduct data collection. The University of Leeds will lead the United Kingdom's CLT as part of the research consortium for SALP. The University of Colorado Denver is the CLT lead for the United States, and Maynooth University for Ireland. In Sweden, Reem Kassagby and Louise Backelin will lead the CLT, and in Canada Dr. Nesrine Basheer will head the CLT. Ca' Foscari University of Venice is the CLT for Italy.
